Pueblo a Pueblo is a US-based non-profit committed to improving the health, education, and food security of coffee-growing communities in Guatemala. Smallholder coffee production and seasonal day labor on coffee plantations typically provide low wages and worker’s income is often unpredictable due to fluctuating yields. Coffee leaf rust has further devastated farms across Guatemala, putting farmers at greater economic risk. In 2013, Pueblo a Pueblo launched a beekeeping project for coffee farmers. They are providing the tools, training, and support to enable coffee farmers to diversify their income through cooperative beekeeping, honey production, and marketing.
Our Role
The Chain Collaborative is providing financial support to this sustainable livelihoods project. We created the Coffee Residency program in order to allow cafes and coffee roasters to collaboratively fund this project (and others into the future). Daily Press Coffee Shop has thrown a few events to raise money for the project, and together with their house roaster, Irving Farm, they are donating $1 to the project out of every retail bag of coffee sold at the cafe. The Chain Collaborative has also sponsored events with barista musicians to raise money for the project.
