CAC Pangoa was founded on March 19, 1978 and currently has 644 members, of which 129 are female and 515 are male. CODEMU is the women’s committee that CAC Pangoa formed to address the needs of women cooperative members as well as women family members. Through the committee, the women may ask for loans, typically in order to raise small animals, improve their family gardens, or improve their lot of coffee. Loans usually range between 500 and 1000 soles (or roughly $180-360 USD).
Our Role
The funds available to CODEMU are very small, so when asked for which project in their cooperative CAC Pangoa would most like to receive support, they said would want support for the women of CODEMU. To date, The Chain Collaborative has raised money for 2 revolving loans for CODEMU. We have also connected them with a local non-profit organization in Peru, which facilitated a training for the cooperative staff that manages the loan funds.
